Nike IIHL State Championships Review
The
2001 Nike IIHL State Championships was fantastic.
A great line up of players from various schools made
the tournament both great to play in and interesting
to watch. The day kicked of with a boom with a total
of twelve schools booked in. Teams were extremely
well put together with the majority of teams having
at least one state player or competitive level player
to teach the beginners in each team. Only approximately
30% of the players who attended the tournament actually
play competitively making the tournament a great way
for beginners to take a look at the fast sport of
Inline Hockey. We had several outstanding teams that
attended the tournament; Camberwell High School, Kyabram
Secondary College a team almost full of hockey players
and Lilydale Heights with star of the team Nathan
Rossi. These 3 teams didn't loose a single game however
in Camberwell High School's case this was expected
as they had a fantastic line up of players including
Captain Liam Webster and 3 other state players. It
was obvious from the start that this team was going
to dominate the tournament however Kyabram Secondary
College and Lilydale Heights Secondary College did
give them an extremely good challenge. Other schools
that have made a considerable impression are Ballarat
Secondary College who traveled a great distance to
the tournament and ended up coming an overall fourth
just loosing out in the semi finals.
The Grand Final was played off with Camberwell High
School and Kyabram Secondary College and this game
was a very fast an exciting game indeed Camberwell
scoring an overall 8 points and Kyabram with a very
well deserved 1 point. The amount of skill in this
game from both teams was very impressive and it really
showed that the two teams both deserved to be there!
Jon Moses from Nike and Karl Bryan from Puckhandlers.com
presented Camberwell with their medals and 1st place
trophy and Kyabram with their second place trophy
and a T-shirt for each player. Jono Blatt from Bialik
Secondary College also received the overall MVP for
the tournament winning a pair of puckhandlers.com
boxes due to a great performance all day long. Although
all the teams and players deserve to be commended
on their performances I could be here for hours writing
about all the great games that I saw being played
out! I hope you all enjoyed the tournament as much
as I did and I hope to see you all in 2002.
