Ladies Trip to the Nationals

Having all arrived into Brisbane airport, we thought the trip was over. But only after another hour and half extra travel did we arrive VERY HUNGRY at our First Class Resort! (Good choice Carl) Once rooms were organized, a quick trip to the Stadium by foot was in order.

The following day, our game against ACT was a great indication of how we can play as a Team! After having won 4-0 (Special mention to Bree who covered her goal with amazing skill and technique) creating her first shut out as a rookie goalie. Joey Schoof being our main scorer with some nice top corner goals!!

We were pumped for the next 2 games the following day. Unfortunately Victoria lost against NSW first and then QLD, the bad luck followed after the NSW game as the team Captain experienced a few injury issues of her own, while Nicole Cavanagh was abused for some ‘boob-checking’!!

Disappointment was felt but spirits and determination soon lifted for the second round game against ACT. This was a tight game, with forwards continually being hampered by the defenders on both sides. And when they did manage to break through, the goalies were simply awesome! However, finally 90 seconds before the end of the game the Victorian Captain scored the one and only goal after returning back from injury, and the goalie had herself another shut out!!

Once again, Victoria incurred losses against both QLD and NSW; Victoria had 90% possession but was not lucky to finish off. After the second win against ACT Victoria was locked into a finals draw however due to ACT’s freak wins beating both NSW and QLD, Victoria was kicked out.

All in all, it was a great tournament, players showed good team spirit, good ‘social’ skills and a definite strength by certain members for the secret agent stuff (i.e.: toilet windows, toilet paper, shaving cream !!!!)
The woman’s teams had some serious tough players!! Go Togni!!

Finally despite Victoria coming fourth, 4 Victorians were selected for the Australian All Stars…. Christine Theophilis, Jo Schoof, Christa Somers and Anna Matus with Georgie Moore chosen as Reserve.

Special thanks to the Coaching staff Karl and Brad and manager / player Priscilla Cutter. Also to all those who assisted the woman.

Well done to everyone and Good Luck for next year!!
