The Silver Cup is a tournament series we developed
at Puckhandlers Roller Sports Stadium, we saw a need
for a regular tournament that targeted the average
player rather than the state/national players. Most
tournaments cater to the elite players, we designed
the Silver Cup for the average player rather than
that top percentage. The rules eliminate state players
from playing in their respective age groups and therefore
present an opportunity for the next tier of players
to step up and be the dominant players in clutch situations.
This is an important part of developing as an athlete,
being presented with difficult competitive situations
and digging deep within yourself to rise to the occasion
as part of a team attempting to win the game. All
with the help and along side each one of your team
mates.
The Silver Cup started three years ago with eight
local teams playing for the cup in one senior division,
the teams were reasonably disorganised and we had
players playing in three different teams due to lack
of numbers. The Silver Cup series now has four dates
per year (2 Sr, 2 Jr), is now a National competition
and has divisions of U10, U12, U14, U16, Senior Silver,
Senior Bronze and the next tournament will include
a Gold division for the top senior players. We have
also introduce the Pro Tournament which will run in
conjunction with the Jr Silver Cup in the future with
prize money ($4,000 - $10,000) for the winning team.
In 2001, 91 teams and nearly 1000 players will have
competed in the Silver Cup and the teams/players have
travelled from Launceston, Hobart, Canberra, Hamilton,
Mansfield, Sale, Bairnsdale, Adelaide, Sydney, Shepparton,
Moe, Brisbane, Bahmera, Berri, Lilydale, Coolangatta
to play in the series this year.
There is no better way to improve than to play effectively
the better part of a season in one week on the way
to trying to win a championship. It is also a great
bit of fun meeting and competing against other players
from around Australia and also watching players in
other age groups competing for the Silver Cup crown.
Not to mention great value for $60 - $70 entertainment
during the holidays!! The Pro Tournament will also
add a whole new element to the Jr side of the draw
and we hope the Gold division of the Sr draw will
make it a bit more interesting as well.
Hope to see you at the next SILVER CUP!

The
tournament had over 40 teams and more than700
people strolled through the turnstiles at some
stage or another throughout the week. The divisions
were U10,U12,U14,U16 Masters/Women and Pro.
The Pro Division had Australia's best teams
and players battling it out for a $4,000 cash
prize! It was awesome! Ex NHL and USA National
player, Ralph Barahona, made the trip and played
in the 'Pro Division'. Ralph Barahona also played
in the September Pro division and was incredible
to watch! His backhand is literally as hard
as any Pro League slapshot I have seen. He thought
Australia was great and really appreciated the
hospitality everyone showed him during him.Nike,
Mission, Tour, Easton and CCM launched new products
at the tournament.

The $4,000 game was played on Sunday, January
